The Assistant General Manager is responsible for assisting with the entire business performance of the establishment, paying specific attention to the FOH staff. An Assistant GM uses past performance, market conditions, and strategic planning to forecast supply and demand. Requires significant experience in various facets of the restaurant industry or related field; and/or a degree in a related field.

General Responsibilities

  • Helps manage food, liquor and labor costs.
  • Discipline staff appropriately according to policy and procedures.
  • Create and maintain FOH staff schedule.
  • Prepare comp and tip reports and monitor voids daily.
  • Recruit and hire new staff as needed.
  • Maintain high standards of quality control and health and safety.
  • Attend regular weekly management meetings and monthly staff meetings.
  • Oversee reservations for the restaurant and private dining room.
  • Adhere to grooming and appearance standards consistently.

This position does represent the company in handling complaints, arbitrating disputes or resolving grievances, as an AGM you will be expected to use your discretion and independent judgement to work with guests to ensure satisfaction. An AGM will have to take initiative and get creative in resolving guest challenges and involve a supervisor, when previously outlined methods appear unsuccessful.

Team Management General Responsibilities

  • Team assumes responsibility for the day to day operations of the restaurant to ensure efficiency and profitability.
  • Provide guidance and implement approved changes to ensure quality Coyne’s standards are met for service, food, and beverages.
  • Work together with the restaurant group to make food and beverage menu changes and ensure that all communication between the front and back of the house is accurate.
  • Help to develop cost-saving strategies to increase profit and manage labor costs.
  • Provide for training to ensure performance objectives are met.
  • Provide leadership and team building for staff.
  • Maintain a positive, friendly, upbeat atmosphere.
  • Investigate and resolve food quality issues and service complaints.
  • Work with HR for all disciplinary actions and hiring needs.
