Job Description

We currently have an Intermediate level Commercial Officer role based in our Ottawa office. This role requires an understanding of contractual terms and conditions. As a member of the Commercial Services team, you will support the development, review and update of contracts, as well as support proposal preparation, contract execution and contract compliance for domestic and international defence contracts.

This position follows a hybrid working model. There will be a mix of at-home and on-site work, with an expectation of in office attendance to support business needs. Typically there will be an expectation of 2-3 days in office a week.

  • Administers contracts and monitors contract performance
  • Acts as focal point for all contractual communications and commitments to customers
  • Maintains documentation and files in accordance with applicable processes
  • Ensures compliance with applicable contract clauses and internal policies and procedures
  • Participates as a key member of the proposal or program team to address contract requirements
  • Collaborates with the Program Manager to support overall contract performance which may include preparing or supporting Request for Proposal documentation
  • Reviews Requests for Proposals and participates in preparing compliant proposal responses
  • Negotiates, with support from leadership, contracts within business goals and documents substance of discussions, agreements, and results;
  • Negotiates, with support from leadership, terms and conditions including estimated cost or price, delivery, quality, and performance requirements
  • Reviews contract documents for accuracy, performance risk, and conformance with contract terms, conditions, and other provisions including applicable federal regulations and business team objectives prior to signature / acceptance
  • Collaborates as a key member of an inter-disciplinary team to ensure contract requirements are fully understood and executed
  • Responds to internal and external inquiries regarding contract issues, audits, and compliance requirements
  • Manages contract change process and works with the Program Manager, Engineering, Finance, and other disciplines to mitigate performance risk
  • Advises and supports business team on issues and developments relative to assigned contracts
  • Monitors contract performance for scope changes and takes appropriate action
  • Builds customer relationships and understands customer needs and issues

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree with preference for degree in Business, Commerce, Law or other related field plus a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and team effectiveness skills with the ability to work collaboratively on a multi-functional team
  • Strong analytical and research abilities, including data gathering and report writing skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Deliver clear, concise and professional communications
  • Developing business acumen skills to understand impact of advice and actions in order to provide customer service to client groups and to support key business decision making
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
