P osition Overview

The Education Department is currently accepting applications for the Education Animal Keeper position. We are looking for candidates with a passion for wildlife, education, and guest engagement. This unique position grants you the opportunity to work with a variety of animals as well as educational programs (K-12). This position directly assists in coordinating daily operations of the Education Department through collaborative efforts. Duties will be tailored to the individual candidate’s experience and professional development needs. The following is an overview of the responsibilities and/or duties of the Education Animal Keeper position.

Responsibilities

  • Meet weekly with the Development Strategist to discuss fundraising calendar and task
  • Attending the monthly development committee meeting
  • Implementing the development calendar activities, under supervision and direction of the Development Strategist:

    • Appeal letters
    • Corporate sponsorship appeals
    • Foundation grants
    • Donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, recognition and stewardship activities
  • Approaching corporations for sponsorships and/or in-kind donations
  • Running annual Benefit Dinner.
  • Providing Safari tours to mid-level donors
  • Arranging Safari tours with Executive Director or Board of Directors with major donors
  • Working with the Marketing Department to communicate with donors that contact Safari through social media
  • Conduct foundation and corporation prospect research
  • Work with Marketing Department to solicit donations through social media
  • Logging donor interactions (e.g. thank you calls made by Executive Director and Board members to donors) into Donor Perfect
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

● Good physical health. Able to bend, stoop, crawl and walk on uneven surfaces.Ability to lift up to 50 (fifty) pounds.

● While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to work outdoors and indoors in extreme weather conditions.

● Candidates must be able to pass a drug test, including testing for marijuana and annual tuberculosis tests.

● Candidate must agree to a background check

● Must maintain a valid driver’s license with a minimum 3-year history and clean driving record.

● Ability to be a dedicated team player that is flexible, motivated, and has good communication skills.

● Requires strong animal care, interpersonal, and leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff.

● One year experience in an animal care field is preferred.

● Applicants with interpretive and/or informal/formal education experience is preferred.
