Job Description

Purpose: The role of intake specialist/court liaison involves conducting comprehensive assessments, providing initial support, and guiding clients through the intake process for substance use disorder treatment. Additionally, the role includes supporting clients in court proceedings, navigating the criminal justice system, and facilitating communication with necessary criminal justice entities and case management staff.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Intake & Assessment:
    • Conduct thorough assessments of new clients to gather personal and demographic information, treatment history, and medical history.
    • Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure clients receive the appropriate level of care (inpatient or outpatient) based on assessment results and treatment needs.
    • Screen and assess individuals for substance use disorders and medical needs using standardized tools and interview techniques.
    • Ensure all intake paperwork is completed accurately and in a timely manner, including consent forms and insurance verification.
    • Provide orientation to clients regarding treatment expectations, facility policies, and available resources.
    • Maintain accurate, confidential case files and documentation in compliance with HIPAA and facility policies.
  2. Court Liaison:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for courts, probation officers, and legal representatives regarding client cases and treatment progress.
    • Coordinate court-ordered treatment plans and ensure clients meet legal requirements for substance use disorder treatment.
    • Attend court hearings as needed to provide treatment updates and advocate for clients' progress or continued care.
    • Assist with the preparation of reports for court submissions, including recommendations for treatment and post-treatment plans.
  3. Collaboration with Correctional Facilities:
    • Facilitate referrals for incarcerated individuals who are eligible for treatment services, coordinating between the correctional facility and treatment facility.
    • Work with correctional staff to ensure proper treatment planning and continuity of care for individuals transitioning from jail or prison to treatment.
    • Monitor the progress of clients who are involved with correctional facilities, ensuring they are meeting treatment goals while complying with court and correctional mandates.
  • Compliance and Quality Assurance:
    • Adhere to all DDAP and ACA regulatory and compliance requirements related to substance use disorder treatment and client confidentiality.
    • Participate in ongoing professional development and training to stay current with best practices and industry standards.
    • Participate in supervision, peer review, and professional development activities to enhance clinical skills and knowledge
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in substance use disorder treatment, case management, or related field.
    • Experience working with individuals involved in the criminal justice system is highly preferred.
    • Experience in intake assessments and working with court systems is a plus.
  • Certifications:
    • Certification as an Addiction Counselor (e.g., CADC, LADC) is preferred – must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
    • Valid Pennsylvania driver's license, as travel to correctional facilities may be required.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of substance use disorders and treatment options.
    • Familiarity with Pennsylvania court systems, probation, and legal processes.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Strong organizational and documentation abilities.
    • Ability to work with diverse populations, including individuals with criminal justice involvement.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Working Conditions:
  • Full-time position with flexibility required for court appearances and coordination with correctional facilities.
  • Some travel to correctional facilities may be required.
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be necessary based on client needs and court schedules.
