Job Description
ROLE The Junior GIS Analyst assists the Project Management Team with the management of project spatial data and analysis. The position provides support to the Project Management Team by proactively managing geodatabases, engineering incoming data, and managing the collaboration of data between the Project Management Team, clients and stakeholders. The Junior GIS Analyst will also be involved in assisting with ongoing GIS development within Surerus Murphy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Managing incoming and outgoing project GIS data in ArcGIS Pro & ArcGIS Online.
- Production of project specific maps, graphs & figures.
- Using ArcGIS Online to create web maps, dashboards & web apps.
- Assist the Project Management Team with project specific spatial analysis
- Provide GIS technical support to Project Managers, Superintendents, & Forepersons.
- Assist with the development and implementation of ArcGIS Field App Bundle (Survey123, Field Maps).
- Assist with the development of automated and semi-automated project specific reporting.
- Assist the Engineering Technology Specialist in the broader development and implementation of GIS & automated processes across all company departments.
- Assist the Engineering Technology Specialist with the integration of GIS into detailed design workflows.
- Assist the Engineering Technology Specialist with the development & integration of IoT and real-time data workflows.
- Assist the Engineering Technology Specialist with the development and use of GeoAI.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company. POSITION REQUIREMENTS Qualifications - Technical diploma in Civil Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, Geographic Information Systems or related field with a focus on GIS.
Experience - 0 – 3 years of experience in a GIS based role in construction or engineering consulting industry.
Skills and Knowledge - Proficient use of Esri ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and Field App Bundle.
- Ability to keep organized geodatabases and apply data standards.
- Ability to produce maps, web maps and web apps as needed on projects.
- Ability to read and understand relevant construction documents including drawings, specifications & maps.
- Understanding of data management and data engineering.
- Familiarity with coordinate systems & projections.
- Familiarity with Autodesk AEC Collection considered an asset.
- Familiarity with python and other programming languages considered an asset.
- Familiarity with other GIS platforms considered an asset (QGIS, Global Mapper).
WORKING CONDITIONS This position is office based and works within the Calgary or Spruce Grove offices (remote work options may be available depending on the candidate). Occasional t ravel to project sites and/or living in temporary accommodations may be required.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The Junior GIS Analyst reports to the Engineering Technology Specialist.
