Next school year we plan to start a second classroom of children who are 3.5-5 years old, 3-4 mornings a week. We are seeking to find someone to carry or grow into carrying this group of children. We currently have a small daycare/nursery program for toddlers, 3 mornings a week and offer a parent-child group one morning a week on the beautiful land of Sun Heart Farm, a 90-acre educational and therapeutic farm in Stephentown, NY. We are striving to build small-scale early childhood programming on the farm to meet the developmental and therapeutic needs of all children. Steiner spoke about curative education as a deepening of Waldorf education and we recognize this as a necessity to serve all young children as they weather the influences of our world’s challenges and are simultaneously bringing the new, humanity’s future potential. We carry this picture of curative education as a deepening of Waldorf education alongside the support of anthroposophic preventative healthcare as central to our work and offerings here for the children. A commitment to ongoing study and learning together in the light of anthroposophy is central to this initiative. About Sun Heart Farm
Sun Heart Farm is a beautiful 90-acre educational and therapeutic community farm working with biodynamic agriculture, nestled at the foot of the Berkshire mountains in the Lebanon Valley of upstate New York. There are two ponds, a stream, a large barn and homestead that provide for the farmers as well as a small cowherd and angora bunnies that graze and fertilize the land. There are developing gardens and orchards that speckle the 30 open acres of land and short trails weave through the large wooded areas in addition to a 3 mile-long public-access railtrail.
Initiatives at Sun Heart include year-round early childhood programming in the form of a daycare/nursery program and parent-child group; various study groups; a holistic health practice which also offers external applications and baths; agricultural education in the form of short-term apprenticeships, workshop and other events; and residential health retreats, study groups and other events on the themes of home healthcare, nutrition, child development and more as part of Developing the Self Developing the World.
