The PhD Program Officer (PPO) for the Department of Government is responsible for the overall management of the PhD program. They contribute to the overall mission of an ambitious, team-based department, where staff and faculty collaborate to resolve common challenges as they arise. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with the recruitment, admission, financial aid, retention, academic progress, milestone tracking, growth, and placement of students in this degree track.
  • Staff and handle logistics for all events associated with the PhD program.
  • Maintain accurate records for and produce data-driven reports on the PhD program.
  • Interact productively and responsively with the academic leadership of the PhD program and with other university units as needed.




Work Interactions


The Department of Government is one of the largest academic departments within Georgetown University College of Arts & Sciences, housing a highly ranked PhD program. The PhD Program Officer reports to the Associate Chair/Director of Graduate Studies (AC/DGS) with additional supervision by the Chair of Doctoral Admissions, Fellowships, and Placement (CDAFP), and the Administrative Officer (AO). The PPO is responsible for serving PhD students, alumni, and faculty involved in PhD education from recruiting to admissions, to degree progress, and ultimately graduation. .



Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required with at least 3 years of program management experience
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills; superior multi-tasking, time management and organizational skills
  • The ability to work independently and within a team, and to engage productively with multiple constituencies
  • Must be able to navigate sensitive matters with utmost confidentiality, good judgement and poise
  • Must have experience with full Google Suite, full Microsoft Office suite, familiarity with or openness to learn survey software, storage software (e.g., Box), and DocuSign
  • Previous work with graduate students preferred

Pay Range:


The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$47,586.00 - $87,558.13


Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
