**Job Title: Staff Accountant - Multi-Family Property Management**
**Overview**
We are seeking a friendly and professional Staff Accountant to join our team, responsible for maintaining the financial records for a diverse portfolio of multi-family properties. In this role, you will uphold accounting principles and practices to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial statements. You will manage tight deadlines and a variety of accounting activities, including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, and account reconciliations. Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, such as clients, property site employees, and operations leadership, is essential. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must!
This position is based in Gaithersburg, MD, and while it is not fully remote, a hybrid schedule with two work-from-home days may be available.
**Responsibilities & Duties**
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial information for assigned properties.
- Conduct monthly reviews of accounting transactions for assigned entities.
- Collaborate with accounting and operations managers to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
- Address inquiries from ownership groups, regulatory agencies, and finance managers regarding financial results and special reporting requests.
- Assist with the year-end audit process.
- Perform various accounting tasks, including bank statement downloads, income and expense filing, regulatory filings, and client-specific reporting.
- Support Accounting Supervisors and Management with special projects and additional responsibilities as needed.
**Minimum Requirements**
**Education**
- BA/BS in Business with a focus on Accounting is preferred; CPA is a plus.
**Technical Skills and Experience**
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting, particularly in financial reporting and general ledger management. Experience in multi-family real estate, especially affordable housing, is preferred.
- Proficiency in PC applications and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with RealPage, MRI, YARDI, or other large automated accounting systems is a plus.
- Strong experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, etc.).
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- Capability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, taking on new tasks with a moderate level of difficulty.
**Compensation and Benefits**
This exempt role has an anticipated annual pay range of $60,000 to $66,000, depending on various factors such as experience, qualifications, and market considerations. The position may also be eligible for discretionary and performance-based bonuses.
