Job Description

Saint John's Prep invites applications for the full-time, benefit eligible position of Theology Instructor. 


Since its founding in 1857, Saint John?s Preparatory School has provided exceptional education in the Catholic Benedictine tradition. Saint John's Preparatory School is a Catholic/Benedictine, co-educational, day and boarding college preparatory school for students in grades 6-12, with boarding options beginning in the 9th grade. Saint John's Prep is located on the 3,000 acres of woods and lakes of Saint John's University's campus in central Minnesota.  Prep has continuously dedicated itself to both educational development and personal formation.


Under the supervision of the Principal and Assistant Head of School, this position is responsible for teaching in a dynamic upper school program where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth. This person is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with Saint John?s Preparatory policies.

2.Select and obtain materials and supplies such as textbooks.
3.Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
4.Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, projects, and papers in a timely manner. 
5.Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records daily.
6.Act as an advisee to student organizations. 
7.Attend and plan class retreats in collaboration with the Director of the Benedictine Center for Service, Leadership, and Community. 
8.Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.
9.Keep abreast of developments in chosen field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
10.Advise students on academic and vocational curricula, and on career issues.
11.Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues.
12.Participate in campus and community events.
13.Perform administrative duties such as serving as department head or division chair when invited. 
14.Work collaboratively with the Director of the Benedictine Center for Service, Leadership, and Community to plan and lead community formation and service opportunities for the Prep community. 
15.Perform other duties as assigned.

1.Bachelor?s Degree or higher with educational experience in Theology and Philosophy.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
1.Support and advocate for the Catholic, Benedictine identity and mission of the Saint John?s Preparatory School.
2.Strong personal computing skills in word processing; database creation and maintenance; spreadsheet design and manipulation; and email.  
3.Strong organizational and communication skills.  
4.Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow through on projects and tasks.
