We're seeking a dedicated Waste Service Representative to join our team and support environmental stewardship at a leading research facility in Oak Ridge, TN.
About the Role
As a Waste Service Representative, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and compliant management of waste generated by research and operations organizations. You'll be the primary point of contact, providing expert guidance on waste identification, characterization, and packaging. You will also contribute to pollution prevention initiatives and support environmental reviews and assessments. This position offers the chance to apply your knowledge of environmental regulations and contribute to a sustainable future.
What You'll Do
Assist waste generators in identifying and characterizing waste, excess materials, and recyclables.
Guide proper waste management in compliance with regulations and company requirements.
Develop waste sampling plans, considering available process knowledge.
Prepare waste characterization data packages and documentation.
Sign and submit waste documentation for review and certification.
Assist in identifying waste packaging requirements.
Contribute to the identification and implementation of pollution prevention initiatives.
Support organizational reviews, assessments, and surveillances related to waste and excess materials management.
What You'll Bring
A minimum of a B.S. degree in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
At least five (5) years of relevant environmental and/or waste management experience, preferably in a DOE environment.
Broad knowledge of environmental compliance and waste management requirements (applicable laws & regulations).
Broad knowledge of Federal and State of Tennessee environmental laws, regulations, and programs.
Broad knowledge of applicable Executive Orders, DOE Orders, and other government requirements.
Detailed technical knowledge in relevant areas (e.g., transuranic waste management, remote-handled waste management, specific environmental compliance areas).
Familiarity with environmental and waste sampling programs (including sample plan development).
Familiarity with environmental & waste management data verification and validation.
Knowledge of Low-Level Radioactive Waste and RCRA regulations.
Knowledge of TSCA regulations.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Prior experience working at ORNL.
Working knowledge of ORNL's environmental and waste management programs & procedures.
