About the Role:
As a Waste Service Representative, you'll be a key point of contact for researchers and operations organizations, guiding them on proper waste management procedures. You'll work closely with the facility's environmental management and waste programs, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations. This role offers a unique opportunity to apply your technical knowledge and make a tangible difference in a dynamic research environment.
What You'll Do:
Help waste generators identify and characterize waste, excess materials, and recyclables.
Guide proper waste management in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
Develop waste sampling plans, considering available process knowledge.
Prepare waste characterization data packages and documentation.
Sign and submit waste documentation for review and certification.
Assist in identifying waste packaging requirements.
Identify and implement pollution prevention initiatives.
Participate in organizational reviews, assessments, and surveillances related to waste and excess materials management.
What You'll Bring:
A minimum of a B.S. degree in a science or engineering discipline.
Five years of relevant environmental and/or waste management experience, preferably in a DOE setting. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.
Broad knowledge of environmental compliance and waste management requirements, including applicable laws and regulations.
Familiarity with federal and state environmental laws, regulations, and programs.
Knowledge of relevant Executive Orders, DOE Orders, and other government requirements.
Technical expertise in areas such as transuranic waste management, remote-handled waste management, or specific environmental compliance areas.
Understanding of environmental and waste sampling programs, data validation, and interpretation.
Familiarity with instruments and equipment used in environmental and waste management, including data management tools and sampling equipment.
Knowledge of Low-Level Radioactive Waste and RCRA regulations.
Knowledge of TSCA regulations.
Prior experience working at the research facility and familiarity with its programs and procedures is a plus.
