Department Summary


The Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences (EPSS) at UCLA studies real-world problems on Earthand other planets through the application of physics, chemistry, and biology. The department's mission is toprotect and understand the universe through education, discovery, and outreach. Position Summary



The Project & Policy Analyst (P&PA) in the UCLA Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences is part of the Tripati and Eagle Lab Groups and will support personnel and provides organizational leadership and day-to-day management of personnel , and collaborates with faculty Principal Investigators to align project implementation with policy, schedule, and resources. The incumbent supports programming needs of federal funding agencies and foundations, the department and UCLA Green STEM community, and collaborators to set strategic goals, track progress, identify and analyze critical issues, and recommend and implement solutions. Incumbent is responsible for all administrative elements of the Tripati/Eagle group, as well as managing facilities, providing training and documentation, and developing vendor relationships to secure specialized equipment/supplies/services. The P&PA also plans large public outreach events, meetings and conferences to maximize project impact; assists in data collection and analysis, literature surveys, review of policy briefs and bulletins, and drafting proposal budgets; synthesizes current scientific literature, composes articles for academic and lay audiences, and disseminates research results and activities through multiple media platforms.

Qualifications



  • 1. Demonstrated leadership skills to independently exercise sound judgment in decision making, coordinating actions with little supervisionRequired (Required)
  • 2. Ability to work accurately with careful attention to detail and high level of analytical and creative problem-solving; ability to research solutions and identify applicable departmental and university resources (Required)
  • 3. Demonstrated experience leading a team with multiple, diverse projects and deadlines; ability to handle conflict resolution in an academic setting; skill in training and designing resource tools, materials and presentations (Required)
  • 4. Superior written communication skills to compose, proofread, and edit a variety of documents and correspondence that effectively engages the reader, particularly large audiences (Required)
  • 5. Extensive experience writing, editing, and managing collaborative technical writing efforts such as grant proposals, federal procurements, reports, journal publications, and lab/shop procedures. (Required)
  • 6. Exceptional interpersonal skills (oral and written) to communicate professionally and collaboratively with scientists, key University officials, faculty, staff, and students ; ability to work with individuals from varied cultural and professions. (Required)
  • 7. Ability to use discretion and exercise good judgment, tact, and diplomacy in managing a broad range of complex, confidential matters (Required)
  • 8. Skill in independently coordinating an extensive and varied workload with frequent interruptions, distractions, and multiple, conflicting deadlines (Required)
